Business of Bows

Spring has nearly sprung and with that comes a flurry of whimsical feminine trends. Luella was one of the first designers to go all out with girly kitsch bows but this season prepare yourself, the bow is back.

Spring/Summer 11 saw Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe, DKNY and Chanel all offering their own unique take of the bow. From well-placed pinned bows to jewellery and bags, the message was clear. Bows are no longer for the kids, but for the fashion elite.

If your not so sure on the giant bows, why not go for chic accessories. New into EC One is the Bow Collection, made from their very own workshop. Delicate bows in rose gold are perfect for a keepsake, pink in colour and so easy to wear.

Joining EC One for this Autumn/Winter is jewellery designer Jenny Hattersley and her off-beat accessories label, Dark Horse Ornament. Having already been featured in the style pages of Vogue and Grazia  this new designer is one to watch.

How would you describe your personal style?

Eclectic, layered, tonal colours and the occasional graphic print – the perfect foil for a piece of standout jewellery!

What does a normal working day for you consist of?

Sketching, cutting, assembling, stitching, hammering etc. all punctuated by frequent cups of tea & coffee.

How did your love affair with jewellery start?

My granddad always brought fantastic and worldly treasures back from his travels and subsequently my mum built up a pretty amazing and diverse jewellery collection,- as a result I guess my love for beautiful adornments developed from an early age.

What do you think are the key trends for jewellery SS11?

Natural fabrics, textural layers and tassels in neutrals with flashes of vibrant colour.

What would be your golden nugget piece of advice to an aspiring jewellery designer?

Keep plugging away….if you have unfaltering faith in your designs then other people will come to share that belief too.

Who would play you in a movie?

Samantha Morton

What’s your party trick?

Falling asleep on a speaker stack -I’ve never been great at staying up all night, no matter how loud the sound system!

Who/What has been your greatest influence?

Punk

Who’s your favourite designer and what do you love about them?

Consuelo Castiglioni,- she is a powerhouse of original designs with an amazing understanding of colour, print and texture and seems to approach her work and the industry with such integrity.

If you could have any accent other than your own, what would it be?

Scottish.

Favourite quote:

You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear

In a nutshell your philosophy is:

What’s for you’ll not go by you

Ec One Press Week

Last week Push held a press week for jewellery store Ec One (www.econe.co.uk). Being fully influenced by the ethos ‘caring is sharing’ we thought we would give you a little insight into what pieces the magazines were lusting over…

Stella and Glamour had similar tastes, naming Nickolas King and Pebble as their favourite designers. With Stella also raving about (and trying on) the Erika Pena ring collection, and Glamour taking a keen interest in the Shorouk necklaces.

Red, Instyle and Es Magazine had no clear favourites, being impressed by everything on show. Grazia went straight to the new Stephen Webster necklaces and Cosmo Brides went for the adorable button bracelets.

A big thank you to the fashion media crowd and bloggers who attended and gave feedback on the new Ec One pieces. It was lovely to see you 🙂

No lie. We are obsessed. Vanya‘s jewellery blog is brilliant!

Not only does she write about her beautiful vintage-inspired trinkets, but also about her inspiration and things she finds at various fairs and quirky shops. Also adding to this – great imagery that I’m totally jealous of!

If you love her jewellery, which everyone does, you will love her blog.

Vanya sells at Sunday Upmarket as well as http://www.jewellerybyvanya.com/

You should defiantly have a click to her blog as there is also a necklace giveaway at the moment!

To tempt you over, I’ve copied some images from her blog to give you a little taster…
